A proud moment for India as well Bihar and our own Munger District when Mona Das was elected Senator of the 47th district of the State of Washington in the US in her very first attempt. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Mona & her family
Mona family was resident of Dariapur in Kharagpur division in Munger district of Bihar. Her family immigrated to America when she was 8 months old with $6 in their pocket, and an unfailing desire to build a better life for their family.
Her grandfather Dr. GN Das is a retired civil surgeon from Gopalganj district. He worked at Bhagalpur Medical College Hospital and Darbhanga Medical College Hospital. Mona Das was born in Darbhanga Medical College Hospital in 1971.
Her father worked tirelessly to become a noted materials science engineer. As in many Indian families, her mother was the foundation of the Das family and over the years taught many fellow immigrants how to get by in America. Both of Mona’s parents imbued her with courage, determination, and a strong work ethic.
In the Das family, education was a top priority, and therefore Mona attended the University of Cincinnati where she earned a BA in Psychology.
In 1996, Mona moved to the Pacific Northwest, establishing the roots of her early career and business success. In Portland, she enjoyed a successful career in the tech industry before launching MOXY Mortgage in 2004, a mortgage business focused on educating and empowering first-time homebuyers.
Mona’s passion for helping people who were underserved by other home loan providers helped grow the company into a 50-state lender. MOXY Mortgage has earned a Five-Star Mortgage Professional Award every year since the award’s inception.
In 2012, she went back to school to earn an MBA in sustainable business from Presidio Graduate School. She continues to serve on the Board of Trustees where she is one of the school’s leading fundraisers for educational programs, and mentors next-generation sustainable business leaders.
Mona took oath as Washington State Senator with Gita in hand

As an elected Senator, she has decided to encourage girls to push forward and shatter the glass ceiling.
Saying about her ancestral village Dariapur in Kharagpur
Mona Das also plans to visit her ancestral village. “I have plans to one day visit my ancestral home in Dariapur in Bihar and travel through the rest of India to learn more about the immensely diverse culture that my native country is,” she said.
Her message ended in the same manner it had started.
“Mahila Kalyan, Sabka Maan!(Women welfare, everyone’s respect!)Jai Hind and Bharat Mata ki jai.”
“I am honored and excited to be running for State Senate as a Democrat. Sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option. It’s time we come together to chart a course for our future that is powerful and inclusive.” — Mona Das
